Over the coming years, the global market in satellite navigation products and
services will undergo rapid growth. By 2020, estimates predict that some 3.6
billion users worldwide will help generate revenues of over €250 billion per
year.
Innovative satellite navigation applications for public and private use in
transport, agriculture, civil protection and construction represent the link
between Galileo services and end users.
The Business Development Division of the GJU has two main objectives:
Market development
The first goal of the Business Development Division is to work on developing
future markets for Galileo and EGNOS in order to maximise worldwide
opportunities for the Galileo operating company, and for the benefit of GJU
shareholders, during this period of rapid growth.
To achieve this goal, the Business Development Division will fulfill the
following tasks:
Promote and facilitate the introduction of satellite navigation applications and
services to deliver benefits and value added to future users of EGNOS and
Galileo;
Raise awareness of the profitable solutions offered by EGNOS and Galileo in
different business sectors;
Support the Galileo development phase through demonstrations and R&D activities
in the area of satellite navigation applications, in coordination with the EC,
ESA, and Member States;
Support the optimal integration of EGNOS with Galileo from an application and
end user perspective, with emphasis on business development synergies.
Supporting the Galileo Concession Process
The second goal of the Business Development Division is to provide financial and
business analysis support and insights to the Concession Division.
To achieve this objective, the Business Development Division will:
Facilitate the mobilisation of public and private funds in the context of the
Galileo Concession scheme and international cooperation;
Elaborate an independent business perspective in support of the Galileo
Concession process;
Act as a facilitator in gathering the views of the different user communities in
order to optimise international cooperation and the establishment of the Galileo
Concession framework.
Suggest any necessary adjustments to the development phase, service provision
scheme, and Galileo Concession framework, from the perspective of user
communities and business.
